Why must we adopt gluten free diet?

You might have read about gluten free products in the market disclosing that their products are “GLUTEN FREE”. Do you know what exactly gluten is? Gluten is a type of protein present in grains, commonly in wheat. When the dough is prepared by adding water to the wheat flour, gluten present in the wheat forms sticky network. This protein is a gut irritant. It is considered to be unhealthy for your intestine. Why is it so bad for your health? 

Celiac disease is a common problem associated with wheat gluten. It is common problem with diabetics. Celiac disease is characterized by intestinal damage, nutrient deficiency and other problems. Gluten present in wheat is also known to have opioid like properties, in the sense it results into unnatural cravings.


Gluten free diet: Gluten free diet includes everything except gluten rich foods. Those with celiac disease may avoid wheat and barley. Fruits, vegetables and low fat products are allowed to be included in gluten free diet.
